Introduction

This website contains the resources for the ICT OCR Nationals qualification ( new specification ) for use by year 9 and year 10 at Abbeywood Community School. The website is designed so that you can work independently at your own pace to complete your qualification. If you have any queries about the course speak to Mrs Hay or Mr Lawes.

First Award

This is equivalent to 1 GCSE. You need to complete the following units:-
  • Unit 1 - ICT Skills for Business
  • Unit 2 - Website Creation OR Unit 4 - Multimedia 
  • Unit 21- Creating Computer Graphics ( half unit )
You cannot go onto the National Award until you have achieved at least a Pass in Unit 1, Unit 2 and Unit 21

National Award

If you have completed the First Award qualification you can start to work on the National Award which is equivalent to 2 GCSEs. You need to complete the following units:-
  • Unit 1 - ICT Skills for Business
  • Unit 2 - Web Page Creation
  • Unit 8 - Technological Innovation and e-commerce
  • Unit 21- Creating Computer Graphics ( half unit )
  • Unit 20 - Creating animation for the WWW using ICT ( half unit )
  • Unit 23 - Creating Video ( half unit )
Other options may be added at a later date.

Grades

For both the First Award and the National Award the following grades are available:-
  • Pass ( equivalent to a C grade at GCSE )
  • Merit ( equivalent to a B grade at GCSE )
  • Distinction ( equivalent to an A grade at GCSE )
To achieve the qualification you have to pass all your units. You will be awarded points for each unit you complete as follows:-
  • Pass = 1 point ( 0.5 for a half unit )
  • Merit = 2 points ( 1 point for a half unit )
  • Distinction = 3 points ( 1.5 points for a half unit ).
For the First Award ( 1 GCSE ) you require the following number of points :-
  • Pass = 2.5 points
  • Merit = 4.5 points
  • Distinction = 6.5 points
For the National Award ( 2 GCSEs ) you require the following number of points:-
  • Pass = 4.5 points
  • Merit = 7.5 points
  • Distinction = 10.5 points
