Pictured above left is Bob McMullen holding a 50 lb ling he speared freediving in 1969 off the Puget Sound. Bob died practing freediving in Folsom Lake in 1974. He was truly a champion and friend. To the right is Mike Paulson (1989) displaying a 72 lb monster that he took in extremely deep water diving off British Columbia. Mike resides in Wash

Above is Michael Reynolds holding a huge 50 lb ling taken off the San Juan Islands in 1989. The fish bent the spear shalf in half. Ling finally secured in 100 feet of water...Left is Eric Anderson (me) holding a 30lb ling taken off Arena Rock in the 70's. To the right is Ed Ikemoto (some of you may know his daughter) hoisting his monster taken at Ocean Cove in the 70's.

The above left picture is John Murphy from the Sacramento area displaying his very first ling cod. It was taken at Ocean Cove. (not bad for starters)...The above picture right is Phillip Anderson holding up 2 huge lings taken off Neah Bay a few years ago. The one on the left was 27 lbs.

These two pictures are of Sam Burns and Leonard Alger. These lings they are holding are not large, but let me tell you these two guys were fabulous hunters and teachers of the sea. I owe them so much...

Eric Anderson and Patrick Freeling holding up their trophy lings taken freediving in Mendocino County. Patrick is the "new breed"...but, I'm very old breed and still hunting...

Above left is Mark Barville holding a ling he took just south of Anchor Bay Beach a few years ago . Mark is  known for hunting big tuna in Mexico.  The picure to the right is  Reed Gaton and his friend Mitch Hodgson with an 18lb ling  that Mitch speared using a polespear in 2004. I will quote what Reed said about his friend..This is very touching. "Mitch disappeared diving off the coast of Hawaii in January of 2007 while training for the National Spearfishing Team. He will be forever missed."

Chuck Foley died shortly after this picture was taken. Chuck was an icon for early surfers and divers. He was one of the first surfers in Southern California. Have you ever heard of the Foley Surfboard? Now you have. He also was a WWII Navy Diver and henceforth, very instrumental in the SCUBA world. Above right is Richard Lewis a very successful diver. Here he  is pictured holding a 10.5 inch abalone and a 20lb class ling. Richard is a north coast icon of today..He's also a good guy...

These two lingcods were taken by Eric Stockwell in 2008. The one on the left weighed 24 lbs and the one on the right weighed  28 lbs. Both from Humboldt Count. Nice going Eric!
