Debbie Diller offers practical suggestions for over a dozen literacy work stations that link to instruction and make preparation and management easy for teachers. Learn how to set up work stations, how to manage them, and how to keep them going throughout the year.
Each chapter includes:

materials to include at each station;
what to model;
how to solve problems;
how to differentiate;
how to assess and keep students accountable;
reflection questions for professional development.
Materials in both English and Spanish are provided in the extensive resource section. Throughout the book the author has included photos of literacy workstations from a variety of classrooms in which she has worked to illustrate the methods discussed in the text.
One World Trade Center Construction
Nothing much more than a snapshot, but it just seemed like it should be posted today. Behind the towers at the front of the image is the current status of the new One World Trade Center rising as part of the reconstruction of the World Trade Center complex in lower Manhattan. One World Trade Center, also known by its former name Freedom Tower, is the main building of the new World Trade Center complex in Lower Manhattan in New York City, New York. The tower is located in the northwest corner of the 16-acre (65,000 m?) World Trade Center site bounded by Vesey, West, Washington and Fulton streets. Construction on below-ground utility relocations, footings, and foundations for the building began on April 27, 2006. On March 30, 2009, the Port Authority said that the building will be known as 'One World Trade Center', replacing its former name 'Freedom Tower'. Upon completion, One World Trade Center will be the tallest building in the United States standing at a height of 1,776 feet (541.32 m). Along with One World Trade Center, the new World Trade Center site will feature three other high-rise office buildings along Greenwich Street and the National September 11 Memorial & Museum. The construction is part of an effort to memorialize and rebuild after the original World Trade Center complex was destroyed during the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

The result is an invaluable collection of research-based activities that enable teachers to match independent practice with students' needs in reading comprehension, fluency, word study, and writing. Moreover, Southall provides a workable framework that makes setting up the centers and tracking student progress simple.
