Open Positions and Nominations

Requesting Nominations for Vice President

The Midwest American Academy of Religion is currently searching for nominations and/or self-nominations for the position of Vice President and Program Chair. Mary Dunn had been elected in April, but she has had to step down because of an unexpected new work assignment at her university.

This is an elected position, with the term beginning later this summer. The Vice President holds this position for two years, with several responsibilities. In addition to serving on the MAAR Board and providing leadership for the region, the Vice President is program chair for the regional meeting, and coordinates section chairs in putting together the program. At the conclusion of the two-year term as Vice President, s/he becomes President of the region for two years, before taking the position of Past President.

This position is vital for the health of the region's activities, and scholars who are energetic, organized, and committed to the Region are encouraged to submit self-nominations.

Anyone who is a member of the Region is eligible to serve as Vice President.

The deadline for nominations is July 1, 2016. Nominations should include a statement of interest and a current CV. Nominations or queries can be sent to Steve Young (President of the Region) at syoung@mchenry.edu or Jeff Brackett (Regional Coordinator of the Region) at jmbrackett@bsu.edu.

If you are interested in serving in a leadership position down the road, or have ideas regarding the region or our annual conference, please contact Midwest AAR President Steve Young at syoung@mchenry.edu.
