About the lab...

Soil physics is the study of soil physical properties and transfer processes (heat, water, and gas) that occur within the solid, liquid, and gas phases of the soil. Soil physics plays an integral role in the multi-disciplinary approach needed to solve complex environmental, agricultural, and societal issues that range from water and food security to greenhouse gas emissions and the impact of climate change on managed and natural ecosystems.

The AAMU Environmental Soil Physics Laboratory research focuses on measuring and characterizing soil physical properties and quantifying soil physical processes using field experiments, laboratory experiments, and novel measurement techniques at multiple spatial and temporal scales. The research efforts of the AAMU Environmental Soil Physics Laboratory are primarily student driven. Student training at the undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral levels focus on developing a comprehensive understanding of soil physical properties and heat, water, and chemical transfer processes throughout the soil-plant-atmosphere continuum.
