Aadhaar Linking

Aadhaar Linking: Extended Deadlines To Link Different Documents With Aadhaar Card

The Government of India has mandated the linking of Aadhaar with various services like bank accounts and mobile phone numbers and a number of welfare schemes. Aadhaar number or Unique Identity Number (UID) is issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). The initiative by the Centre was started in 2010 to issue the residents of India a 12-digit personal identification number which is linked to the basic demographic and biometric information of an individual. The authentication drive was introduced to prohibit duplicate or fake identifications. Also, the 12-digit UID can be used for online identity authentication process by the residents of India. Moreover, it will help the government to cater to the Indian residents the targeted delivery of benefits, subsidies, and other financial services. Right now, with almost 1.19 billion residents enrolled in the system, Aadhaar is the world’s largest system of biometric identification.
