1st A350 delivery: 29/06/2015
Vietnam Airlines ordered their first A350s in 2007 and has 14 on order as of today. These 14 Airbus aircraft together with 16 Boeing 787-9s are initially intended to replace the carriers aging Airbus A330-200s and Boeing 777-200ER fleet until 2018. Nevertheless, these 30 new long-haul aircraft should help Vietnam Airlines to grow a little in the long-haul market.
VN took delivery of its first A350 on the 29th of June 2015 and has received 3 more aircraft since then. The first commercial flight of the Vietnam Airlines A350 was on July 3rd, 2015 on the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route. These A350XWBs are replacing the B777 on the Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh City - Paris route as well as on some regional routes such as Seoul or Shanghai. In March 2017, Vietnam Airlines filed the A350 on all 10 weekly flights to Frankfurt (starting in January 2018).
We expect Vietnam Airlines to use the A350s mainly on routes to Europe or the US. Vietnam has been considering the 777X models but is now also interested in the ULR version of the A350s to connect Vietnam and the United States (L.A., etc...).
