In 2008, China Airlines finalized an order for 14 A350-900, along with 6 additional options. The first delivery is planned to take place in July 2016. Futher deliveries are expected for 2017 (6) and 2018 (4). After several months of crew training and up to four daily flights to Hong Kong, China Airlines finally plans to use the A350 on flights to Amsterdam, Rome and Vienna. The airline will benefit from the size of the A350 by adding more frequencies, using a smaller aircraft than the B777-300ER.

China Airlines will use the A350-900 to replace the A340-300 and B747-400 fleets on flights to Europe, Australia and the United States. In April 2016, China Airlines announced to put special liveries on all aircraft of its A350 fleet, showing different species of birds, which are typical for Taiwan.
