Beacon running about 2W on the omni directional, horizontally polarized antenna. Antenna is about 4 m AGL.

Construction :

Beacon is made very traditionally:

RF part is quartz oscillator taken from PC board, and they have 50,000 MHz or some Hz above this. Keyer is 555 oscillator with EEPROM.  Short message consist of Call sign and locator and dot`s which changed in continues line and reverse. RF power is amplified in 3 stages. Beacon have overheating shut down protection and antenna present DC circuit.

 Purpose:

During first day`s of 6m activity from Croatia, beacon was only source of signal which help to build RIGs and antennas.

Beacon is very robust and it have had only minor periods of inactivity mostly because of power cut.  Thunder strike one`s but without significant damage.

This days, beacon is not so needed but is is some kind of legend and constant on 6m in western part of Croatia. Thay can be normally heard from nice part of 9A, HG, S5 ( even from Koper , JN65).

In last IARU contest ( 2006, call 9A60M) I was worked on beacon antenna by mistake and it took 3 hours before I find out that I am on omni antenna: it was so good!  ; -)

During TEP, and F2 season, antenna could be changed to 7 el M2.

Info  about antenna change will be send on DX Cluster.
