Lux Style Awards 2006
About the picture collage: I am sure you have already seen and know who the winners are so I will cut it short. Here are some pictures I like. Those of you who are interested in any one these celebs, read on: EMAN finally managed to get an award for the most stylish outfit on the red carpet. And everyone said, “Oh poor thing, shukar hai kuch tau mila!” Well she was actually looking quite nice, but then she is Eman so most of her die hard fans expect much more from her. AMNA & SHAN, (Ah! Sigh) He sure is handsome, and Amna used to be quite popular back in her college days, but of late, something tragic happened to her style sense. AMINAH HAQUE, was definitely looking much better than last year, but was she happier? Who can tell? It remains a topic of debate if Aminah and Ammar Belal are still together or not! And I solemnly swear to God, I have no clue why AMMAR BELAL was wearing an eye blinding, shimmering outfit. But then again, I suppose I’m too old to know what’s in nowadays and what rocks! I guess you guys can be better judges! MEERA, I have now actually started to pity. Being accommodated in the same hotel, as some of these celebrities I could see people gawking at famous designers, singers, actors, photographers and models with awe, but soon as madam Meera made an appearance, she somehow managed to become the target of some joke. When I told a friend of mine about it later, he said don't worry, she lacks even the capability of knowing she is being made fun of. Now this is cruel. Anyway, when I asked her who designed your dress she muttered some incomprehensible words which left me and other fellow journalists quite clueless. Then someone said, “Oh she must have had one of those memory lapses of hers!” REEMA, I adore! She is a beauty but only if she is without makeup. She managed to dazzle everyone during her dances but when she came out to get the award, she wore a dress that made her look fat. NEHA as usual was stunning. (God how I hate these women who are so thin and so fit) BABRA: will she ever start to look bad? She is still so pretty, although looking much more haggard this year. People are just ruthless: on the way back in the plane some good 45-50 year old men, kept calling out to her saying ,”Hello aunty Babra! Aap Meri Ammi ki ideal hain!” Wretched beings! Oh! a bit about the BEST PHOTOGRAPHER award: Rizwan of Deevees was very hopeful, the rumour was Arif Mehmood had bagged it this year. KHAWAR, as always kept telling everyone no I’m not getting it. But he actually did, and he went up on the stage and said “ Waisay jin ko English bolni nahi aati woh Urdu main baat kiyoon nahi kartay?” The next day he comes to me and I congratulate him, “ I say Khawar Mubarik ho!” And he says, “ Kis baat ki? !” Hmmm..okk! Then he tells me that he was happier to receive the Sony Ericsson’s cell phone rather than the award. He is weird, but still he’s less fake than everyone else! Something in the way he talked and gathering from the conversation of an insider in his camp, I felt that Khawar had decided that enough was enough. If he wasn’t getting it this year he was probably not ever coming back here! Politics ! Politics!

Giddha (Folk Dance of Punjab) Performer
© Capt Suresh Sharma. All Rights Reserved Giddha Folk Dance of Punjab, India Giddha is a popular folk dance of women in Punjab and exhibits teasing, fun and exuberance of Punjabi life. Gidda dance is just as energetic as bhangra and at the same time it manages to creatively display feminine grace and elasticity. Giddha is essentially danced in circles. Girls form rings and one of the dancers sit in the centre of this ring with a dholki (drum). Just as in bhangra, one girl comes forward and sings a boli (verse). As she comes to the end of it, the others pick up the refrain and join. Most commonly girls dance in twos. Gidda dance is stylistically simple. Jingle of the bells, thumping of the feet, beat of the drum and the resplendence of Punjabi women in salwar kameej creates an enchanting atmosphere for it. What makes Giddha so popular is that it is not performed according to any cut-and-dried rule. Harmony is the essence in gidda movements that are inclusive of swinging and twisting the body, shaking of the shoulders, bending to a double and clapping. Giddha dance incorporate village life scenes of woman spinning, fetching water from the well and grinding. This is accompanied with appropriate boli and songs.
