Vernon Mortrud, B-17, B-29 Aerial Gunner

Vernon Mortrud trained as a Ball Turret Gunner on a B-17 and also as a Tail Gunner on a B-29. He was born in 1926 and although he did not fly combat missions at the end of WW 2, he still retains his interest in WW II aviation and is a volunteer to explain the ball turret position to visitors at local aviation events, such as the Collings Foundation's July 20-23, 2012 trip of the B-17G "Nine-O-Nine" to Blaine Anoka Airport. In the following video he talks with Jim Rasmussen and Kevin Callahan. The video begins with Jim Rasmussen followed by Vernon Mortrud.
