Leo Passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2011

Funk, Leo Joseph
Leo Funk, age 88, of Crystal died February 27, 2011 at The Heathers Manor in
Crystal. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at 2:00 P.M at
the Lakewood Chapel 3600 Hennepin Ave, Mpls. Visitation will be held on Monday
from 5-7 at Gill Brothers Funeral Chapel 7300 42nd Ave. N. New Hope.
Leo was born on May 26, 1922 to Leo and Mary (Kapplehoff) Funk; he
grew up in Racine, WI, and served in the 8th Air Force as a B-17
Bomber Pilot during WWll. In 1945 he was united in marriage to Edna
Barry. After the war he graduated from the University of MN with a
degree in Business Administration. He worked as an accountant in the
Minneapolis area until he and Edna moved to western SD where they were
ranchers until they retired in 1986.  Also during that time served in
the Air Force Reserves, retiring as a Major.  Past services include
Director and President of Black Hills Farm Mutual Insurance Co.,
Commissioner of the Meade County Housing and Redevelopment Commission,
rural Meade County school board and election board.  He and Edna moved
to the Minneapolis area in 1998 to be near their daughter and her
family.  Edna passed away later that year.  He is preceded in death by
his wife, parents, two sisters, one brother and special
friend, Emmy. He is survived by his daughter, Shirley (Michael)
Johnson; grandson Bryan Johnson; three great grandchildren, Alexis,
Ethan and Aidan; one brother Arthur Funk, 17 nieces and nephews, and
many wonderful friends.
