Joseph E. McKernan, USAF, NWA

Joe McKernan, USAF, NWA, was a long-time member of the 8th AFHS-Mn who regularly attended the weekly luncheons. He was also volunteered at the NWA History CentreJoe was an aircraft mechanic in the Air Force and he was also a crew chief while stationed in England at an old WWII base there, He was crew chief on a C-47 (and perhaps other aircraft). At North West Airline (NWA) he worked on various aircraft in the hangars and also worked in the engine shop's overhaul teardown section, and also the APU shop (auxillliary power units) which were generally located in the tail section of the aircraft.

McKernan, Joseph E. age 73, of Bloomington passed away July 15, 2014. Preceded in death by parents, Emmett and Catherine McKernan. Survived by loving wife of 47 years, Sharon; sons, Darren and Kevin (Alison); grandchildren, Emmett, Ragen, Bode and Linnea; brothers, Gene (Sandra) McKernan and William McKernan; sisters, Betty Ann (Lloyd) Fenhaus and MaryLou (Gordon) Jarman. Born in Milbank, SD, served four years in the USAF, employed with Northwest Airlines for 37 years, collector of Lionel Trains for 30 years. Funeral service Friday, July 18 at 11 AM at Bloomington Covenant Church, 10150 Xerxes Ave S., Bloomington.
