Charles Woehrle, B-17 Bombardier, 8th Air Force, 351st Bomb Group, 509th Bomb Squadron
Grew up in Pine City, Mn.  High School Graduation 1933; 1934 enlisted in the Third Infantry at Fort Snelling; U of Mn graduation in 1939; 1942 enlisted at Fort Snelling in the Army Air Corps; Trained as a Bombardier; Commissioned as a 2nd Lt. 1942; Arrived in England April, 1943. Flew missions with his crew for about one month. Ex-Prisoner Of War. He described his training and some of his many experiences at the May 2011 Dr. Harold C. Deutsch WWII History Round Table.

There is a photo of Charles Woehrle and others at Stalag VII A, Moosberg, Germany at the 442nd Fighter Wing's website. The Mpls. Star Tribune of May 24, 2009 also published an article and has a video on the web about his WWII experiences. There is a film project by Filmmaker Louise Woehrle entitled Stalag Luft III: One Man's Story about her Uncle Charles, which is described in detail on the IFP Minnesota Center for Media Arts website including online video interviews.
