Ben Vickery, B-24 Tail Gunner

Ben (seated right) is an excellent woodcarver. He brought some of his carved horses to the January 20, 2011 8th AFHS-Mn Luncheon. Ben also painted the nose art on his B-24.
 
Benjamin F. Vickery served as a B-24 Tail Gunner on "Homeward Angel" with the USAAF's 15th Air Force, 485th Bomb Group, 829th Bomb Squadron in Venosa, Italy during WW II He arrived in Italy on July 2, 1944. There is a chapter about him in Don Ward's The Greatest Generation of Silver Wings. He also gave a presentation when the 8th AFHS-Mn met at the American Legion, which should be on one of Dick Hill's VHS tapes. Ben's gunnery school training was at Harlingen, Texas.
