The glass on this display case attracted many fingerprints (and nose prints!) each day. I can't tell you how many times I was offered money for one of those real Tiki Room Cast Member shirts. During the 1960s Disney created so many wonderful things with such fantastic color, on everything from tickets to swizzle sticks. The information card on this case read: "Walt Disney, unquestionably one of the world's leading shapers of Pop Culture, unveiled his unique interpretation of island exotica in 1963. Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room opened at Disneyland and ushered in the astonishing technology of Audio Animatronics. A colorful pastiche of music and movement, the show, in a sense legitimized the "Tiki experience" as contemporary mainstream Americana. "A virtual who's who of Disney greats from all aspects of motion picture production contributed to the Tiki Room's success including veteran animator Marc Davis, who contributed much to the look of the show." ..from the 1996 Anaheim Museum exhibit "Tiki: Native Drums in the Orange Grove", a survey of Polynesian Pop-style in Orange County, California. Curated by Los Angeles artists Kevin Kidney and Jody Daily.

the hibiscus had always reminded me of hawaii. although it is pretty abundant here in the philippines like the plumeria, it seems that as a flower, it is most representative of the hawaiian islands. aren't hawaiian shirts are typically printed with this interesting bloom? another memory that comes to mind when i see a hibiscus is biology class when i got to dissect one and identify its parts. these are perfect blooms and all the right parts are present and easily identified. lol!!! i had fun using the photomatix and tone mapping with photoshop and this is the result! yes, that is the sunset at the back, and this morning this hibiscus gave me a nice little bloom ready for a sunset pictorial!
