"iSlate" Timecode Slate for Apple iPad
Basically it is a clapper case that you put (slip) an Apple iPad into. The case is sold with the iSlate Timecode Slate app (that is downloaded from the app store) and installed. Like a traditional timecode slate you are able to write onto it and basically has all the features of a Dencke TS-C Time Code Slate (all frame rates, off speed, ascending and descending timecode, black-n-white or color clapper sticks). The mockup here is made up of the Dencke TS-C and TS-3 slates. The only thing missing would be the ability to jam sync timecode to the camera or other devices. But maybe this is something that can be done wirelessly via bluetooth. In addition the clapper triggers a screenshot of the info on the screen as well as generates a text document that can later be downloaded for further referencing OR (as suggested by Ryan Adams) be transmitted wirelessly (on the clap) to the person logging the take information and/or automatically updates an excel document. Also a matte screen removeable decal can be applied to cut down on glare. ------- I know this is probably not an original idea and I don't care. I just wanted to sketch something that I think one day someone with the resources will make. I think it is a pretty good and inexpensive way to have a slate, if you already have an iPad.Why Apple Should have a Camera in every product
So I stumbled over these pictures in my Pictures folder last night. Apparently during a family reunion a few months ago, a bunch of my small cousins accosted my bedroom upstairs and took 140 pictures of themselves in Photobooth. While I was doing the appropriate adult things downstairs, engaging in boring "adult" conversations with other relatives, these kids hopped onto my iMac and engaged in all kinds of play in the background, including testing my bed for trampoline potential. This illustrates all too forcefully why APPLE NEEDS CAMERAS IN ALL THEIR GADGETS. One of the most progressives steps that Apple took earlier last decade was the incorporation of iSight cameras in almost all their computers. It was one of the major reasons why my sister, who was indifferent to her iMac at first, came to love it in the end. My niece regularly composes music videos using the iSight camera and Photobooth. So it is with much shock that the iPad didn't feature a camera. Despite the gimmicky nature of video calls, you have to have a camera in everything these days. It's just the rules.
