Took the Holden Cross 8 Ute (6.0L V8) for a drive today. We stop here for brunch whenever we do the mountain trip, it is such a super serene place, location is a well kept secret too. This is amongst the most favourite cars I have owned, bloody fantastic, 6.0L of raw power via 4 x 4 drive, super fun car to drive. With the arrival of the Winnebago and the Boss's new car I just ran out of space, in hind site I should have made the space and kept the old girl, they havee become a collectors item now! Length: 282km Eastern Terminus: Princes Hwy, 5km north of Bega Western Terminus: Hume Hwy, 26km south west of Gundagai Route taken: From the Princes Hwy, 5km north of Bega, via Bemboka and Brown Mtn to the Monaro Hwy, 8km south of Nimmitabel. Thence from the Monaro Hwy at Cooma via Adaminaby, Kiandra, Tumut and Adelong to the Hume Hwy, 26km southwest of Gundagai. Route Markers: National Route 18 (NR18 is continuous across the Monaro Hwy gap) Declared a State Highway: 7 August 1928 Named: 9 September 1955 The Snowy Mountains Highway, State Highway No. 4, is an important east-west route in southern NSW, connecting the coast with the Monaro plains, the snowfields and Kosciuszko National Park, as well as the Riverina. The highway is rarely used from end to end; however sections of the highway carry very high traffic volumes, particularly around Tumut/Adelong. In the winter month’s traffic is extremely heavy on the western side of Cooma, as thousands of tourists make their way from Canberra and Sydney to the snowfields. It is also advisable that, during the winter months, tyre chains are carried at all times as the highway is often subject to heavy snow and frost.

I can't remember why I'd be adjusting the mirror in the middle of a snow storm? We woke up Sunday to snow everywhere! Roads were closed, accidents happened, stores were no longer stocked with winter items such as gloves and tire chains! We stayed an extra day to stay safe. It's not easy stopping a 20,000# rig on wet and slippery roads.
