NAS Alameda, CA Gate 2nd Floor Plan 1940
NAS Alameda, CA Gate 2nd Floor Plan 1940
From the National Archives 71-1210-34-69. The Naval Air Station Alameda was constructed on landfill at the west end of Alameda Island in the early 1930s. The land was acquired from the Army Air Corps in 1936 and construction ensued on the naval air station. Most of the buildings were all designed at the same time in what I call Government Deco. NAS Alameda was closed in 1996 and sat mostly vacant for 10 years. The City of Alameda has entered into a partnership with SunCal Companies for the redevelopment of this important piece of naval history. It does not appear that NAS Alameda is on the National Register.
