Venice Italy. North African man selling fake sunglasses. Rumanian gypsy woman disguisers herself and begs money from passing tourists, many of whom as they are only in Venice for the day believe that she is a poverty stricken old aged Italian. San Giorgio Maggiore in background. Canal di San Marco. Venice is sinking under the weight of 20 million visitors a year. Only 30% of Venice's visitors stay overnight the rest stay out of town or on their cruise ships. There is a plan is to limit visitors to the city who have pre-booked hotel accommodation.
