52MM Infrared Filter - IR720 - for Kodak, Fuji, Sony, Canon, Nikon + MORE!
Use for photography with infrared films. Infrared film is also sensitive to ultraviolet rays and the shorter wavelengths of the visible spectrum so it is necessary to filter out all but the infrared rays. IR720 passes only infrared rays above 720nm.
Infrared filters, often used in crime detection, medical photography, detection of distribution of vegetation, etc, can also be used for creative and artistic photography!

City of trees - Colour IR
City of trees - Colour IR
Toronto is a veritable forest. This is a (infrared) view of the northwest part of the city from my condo - all the trees and vegetation can be seen reflecting back infrared light in white. I haven't used my Canon A80 P&S much since I got my Nikon D50, but after using my SLR solidly for the last year I have a much better appreciation for what my A80 can do. It's a great compact camera that really allows me to fiddle around with different options - for a compact camera I've got a surprising amount of control over it. I would never have known how to use them all effectively without learning them on my D50. Kinda like the chicken before the egg. 15s exposure taken on a tripod, manual white balance and manual focus. The IR filter was mounted on a 52mm filter adapter for the A80 (the LA-DC52D). The colours don't process quite the same as the D50's - must have something to do with differences in the sensor and built in IR shield.
Reverse-Mounted Baader U-Filter
Reverse-Mounted Baader U-Filter
Since it is designed for telescopes, the Baader U-Filter works best when the pink side faces out. This can be achieved two ways on an SLR: First, the filter retainer can be removed with a spanner wrench and the glass can be flipped around. The filter is then mounted with its threads pointing toward the camera. This is how I used to use my filter. Alternatively, the entire filter can be mounted in reverse. This works beautifully with a Nikon AF-1 holder. Two step rings are required, a 52-48mm step down ring and a 62-52mm (or 60-52) step down ring. Attach the Baader to the 52-48mm ring, then stick this combo - Baader first - into the front face of the AF-1. Next, screw the 62-52mm ring onto both the front face of the AF-1 and the threading of the 52-48mm ring. This is the setup I currently use. I prefer it since it mimimizes vignetting and better shields the Baader from impacts.
