A server is a computer dedicated to serve or contribute files. There are two types of servers, internet servers and intranet servers. An internet server means that anyone online has access to the server. Intranet servers are local networks, usually with a firewall to block outside access. For this class, we use an intranet server called Ed5temp. This is found by locating an icon on the bottom dock which appears as a group of people holding hands. By clicking on this particular icon labeled Edtemp5, we can access the intranet server for SED 514.
A server is a system responsible to answer to requests across a network of computers like within a building, a place of work, a school district, etc., or it may be the system within the computer that helps you locate files and helps you access information.
