    membrane filters
  • (Membrane filter) Microfiltration is a filtration process which removes contaminants from a fluid (liquid & gas) by passage through a microporous membrane. A typical microfiltration membrane pore size range is 0.1 to 10 micrometres (µm).
  • (Membrane filter) a solid continuous film of material that has microscopic pores of controlled size.
  • (membrane filter) a thin microporous material of specific pore size used to filter bacteria, algae, and other very small particles from water

Whatman OE 66 Cellulose Acetate Membrane Filters, 0.20µm, 25mm, 100/pk
Whatman OE 66 Cellulose Acetate Membrane Filters, 0.20µm, 25mm, 100/pk
Features of the Whatman Cellulose Acetate Membrane Filters: Membranes are made from pure cellulose acetate, making them ideal for biological and clinical analysis, sterility tests, and scintillation measurements. Filters exhibit very low protein binding capacity and are hydrophilic, making them suitable for aqueous and alcoholic media. The cellulose acetate membranes have improved solvent resistance, particularly to low molecular weight alcohols, and increased heat resistance. The membrane filters exhibit high physical strength and can be used up to 180°C (356°F), making them suitable for hot gases and allowing them to be sterilized by all methods without sacrificing the integrity of the membrane. The product referenced on this detail page is sold be 100/pk.

Water Analysis E.coli/coliform Test Results
Water Analysis E.coli/coliform Test Results
I suspect nobody will be terribly interested in this (besides obLiterated and even then....) but here it is anyway. As part of my Uni education this semester I have to plan, conduct and report on a major experiment (carried out by me alone) featuring water of some description. I chose to analyse Brisbane drinking water, in particular comparing the Northside water (from North Pine) and Southside water (from Mt Crosby). Anyway this is a photo of the first results for my E.coli/Coliform check of tap water from both Zillmere (North Brisbane) and Carina Heights (South Brisbane). Thankfully there was no sign of E.coli or coliforms on the lauryl sulphate agar or membrane filters. Phew and double phew!! I will be repeating this test again next week and I hope I get the same results :) pH levels were both in the 7's with Zillmere being 7.34 and Carina Heights being 7.84. Both very good results.
This commercial membrane uses a 100psi pump to produce very high quality water - and lots of it!

Whatman Cyclopore Track-Etched Polycarbonate Membrane Filter 25mm 5.0µm (Pack of 100)
25mm diameter Cyclopore membranes by Whatman are manufactured using proprietary technology to produce a precision membrane filter with a closely controlled pore size distribution. Cyclopore membranes are true pore size microporous membranes featuring sharp cut off and reproducible microfiltration performance characteristic of track-etched membranes. The smooth flat membrane ensures particles are retained on the surface so that they are easily visible under a microscope. Membranes are produced from a pure polymeric film and give exceptional chemical cleanliness. They are free of contaminants, have low tare weight, minimum water adsorption and very low levels of non-specific protein binding. These polycarbonate membranes are hydrophilic and are available in a choice of diameters and pore sizes. 100/Pack. Whatman #: 7060-2513.
