  • Alloy wheels (incorrectly known as rims) are automobile (car, motorcycle and truck) wheels which are made from an alloy of aluminium or magnesium (or sometimes a mixture of both). They are typically lighter for the same strength and provide better heat conduction and improved cosmetic appearance.
  • A generic term used to describe any non-steel road wheel. The most common alloy wheels are cast aluminum. Technically, an alloy is a mixture of two or more metals. These wheels are known for their light weight and strength.
  • (Alloy Wheel) Car wheels made of aluminium, rather than steel. Main advantages include lighter weight and attractive styling. Mostly chosen for style reasons.

Spray Finishing Made Simple: A Book and Step-by-Step Companion DVD
Woodworking finishes can make a good project great. Spray Finishing offers professional results far superior to brushing or other hand-applied methods. Now that home woodworkers have access to the specialized tools and finishing products that were once used only by professional finishers, all they need is direction. Enter Jeff Jewitt, a well-known authority on finishing who combines his vast knowledge of the subject with the latest technology to produce this integrated book and DVD set, the first in Taunton’s “Woodworking Made Simple” series. Jewitt explains how to choose equipment and demystifies the spray-finishing process. Through this unique multimedia approach, which includes detailed step-by-step instructions, photos, and how-to video, readers learn where to safely spray finishes and how to troubleshoot and solve spray-finishing problems. Both the book and DVD cover a variety of spray systems, solvents, and waterborne finishing products.

These two models are my latest Code 3 creations. Both are based on photos on Flickr - mostly thanks to Jon-999, and his 'Merseyside Police' photo pool. The Range Rover The model is the Corgi Vanguards 'Cheshire Police' scale model, which has undergone the following changes: -Change of alloy wheels to more realistic ones -Removal of bottom line of Battenburg -Addition of Merpol 'Lined-Livery' -Addition of Merpol crests -Removal, then addition of Aero-codes -Addition of Communication, and Tracker Aerials -Addition of 'NWMPG' badges -Addition of front, and rear LED's. The Vectra This model has turned out very well indeed, considering it was only my second complete re-spray (after the Merpol BMW seen previously in my photostream). The model is a Schuco base model, and came from the Netherlands by means of Ebay. The model's journey from being a LHD, red Opel Vectra OPC, into a white RHD Vauxhall Vectra SRI was as follows: -Complete strip down of model, down to it's individual parts. -Re-spray of outer bodyshell. -Re-painting of interiour to black, due to it originally being blue. -Conversion to RHD, courtesy of a disused donor Corgi Astra. -Conversion to a 'Vauxhall front grille', again courtesy of the above Astra. -Re-assembly of the model. -Addition of a complete 'Merpol' livery -Addition of LED lightbar -Addition of aerials -Addition of front and rear LED's -Addition of correct numberplates and aerocodes -Addition of ANPR cameras All in all, these two models look pretty damn good, and I am very pleased with how they have turned out. Those interested in buying Merpol models might be interested in making me an offer for the FICTIONAL Merpol Range Rover ARV seen previously in my photostream. Have a good Christmas and New Year guys!

Spray Finishing and Other Techniques
A professional looking finish is the dream of most woodworkers. One way to achieve it is through modern spray finishing. Recent improvements in the equipment and widespread adoption have lowered costs making this technique widely available. But there is little information apart from magazine articles and our 1996 book. This book collects the best recent articles from Fine Woodworking on spray finishing and other modern finishing techniques.
