The Kalachakra wheel of time.
The Kalachakra wheel of time.
India. East Sikkim. Labrang Monastery. The kalachakra seed syllable is a complex Buddhist emblem symbolizing the Kalachakra, or wheel of time. The seven intertwined letters (rendered in Lantsa, a Buddhist version of Sanskrit used for mantras and sacred texts) represent the seven words of the kalachakra mantra- "Ham Ksha Ma La Va Ra Ya." The seven letters, combined with the crescent and full moons and the nada (wisp), make up the ten elements that give the emblem its name. This symbol can be found nearly everywhere where Tibetan Buddhism is present, in various forms. It represents the teachings of the Kalachakra tantra, one of the most complex tantric systems. The symbolism behind this logo is vast and has explanations referring to the outer world, the human body at its gross and subtle levels, and the practice of Kalachakra.
Stone table in Lexington, VA
Stone table in Lexington, VA
There is a downtown vest-pocket park in Lexington that is behind the historical center building. It is a lovely place to sit, and I enjoy being there. As you can tell, someone used an old stone gristmill wheel as the top for a table.
