Maintenance and Repair of Laboratory, Diagnostic Imaging, and Hospital Equipment(1150423)
A practical guide to the maintenance and repair of essential laboratory and hospital equipment. Intended for use in institutions that do not have specially trained technicians or engineers, the book responds to the situation, frequently seen in developing countries, where much of the equipment is imported and adequate information on maintenance and repair is rarely provided by suppliers. With these special needs in mind, the manual aims to help staff using specific types of equipment to understand basic principles of construction and operation, adopt good working practices, avoid common errors, perform routine maintenance, and spot the early signs of defects or deterioration. Advice on equipment repair concentrates on common causes of problems that can be solved without expertise in engineering.

Throughout the manual, line drawings illustrate features of construction and design, while numerous checklists offer advice on periodic inspection and cleaning, good working practices, and the essential do's, don’ts, must's, and never's of routine operation and maintenance. Information ranges from the steps to follow when recharging batteries, through advice on how to protect microscopes in hot climates, to instructions for changing a blown fuse in an ultrasound scanner. Basic safety procedures, for protecting staff as well as patients, are also described.

The most extensive chapter covers the maintenance and repair of basic laboratory equipment, moving from autoclaves and incubators, to cell counters and systems for water purification. The remaining chapters describe the correct use, maintenance, and repair of diagnostic equipment, anaesthetic and resuscitation equipment, operating room equipment, and ultrasound and X-ray diagnostic equipment.

Surgery room cellphone ban: iphone snap
Facility name blurred in iPhoto for privacy. Not saying it's a bad idea, just taking notice (and respectfully ignoring). As one friend pointed out, at least they don''t raise the scary spectre of spectrum interference in this sign, Though, since my iPhone sometimes causes funny garbly interference sounds on my TV at home, I can totally buy the possibility that it would also interfere with some medical equipment, if that equipment uses radio spectrum. I did not make calls or use data services in the waiting room here, btw, I'm not an asshole. I just snapped photos. And even then, only non-identifying ones of the ambient space. That repetitive act -- snapping iphone photos -- made me feel more calm when I felt anxious, waiting for this loved one to go through a scary procedure. It was easier to think about framing and color correction and capturing funny details than it was to ponder what my relative was about to go through, and what the consequences might be if something went wrong. I mean, I sat and talked and gave undivided attention before their anesthesia set in, but after it did, I didn't want to relate to other people. Just wanted to observe the space through this tiny lens. (All went fine, I'm thankful to say).
Oil City Hospital
Oil City Hospital
The demolition of the former Oil City hospital on Jan. 18, 2010. The old hospital was vacated and listed for sale for one dollar, but the UPMC Northwest deal stated that if no one was interested in buying it after one year, it was to be demolished. “A difficult economy was a hefty contributor to an unsuccessful pursuit of a tenant,” says Oil City Mayor Sonja Hawkins. The old equipment from the hospital was donated to Third World countries.
