RACE IN ON AS SCHEDULED
The worst weather is still forecasted for afternoon, so we will try to race and wrap up before the storm fully arrives.
**Please take into account your own driving requirements! Light snow is possible throughout the morning with gradually increasing wind.
Course conditions as of Friday evening:
2-3" of fluffy snow. There isn't any more snow forecasted for tonight, but there will be a few wet areas that will freeze into ice. I hope to use the plentiful supply of beach sand to improve the worst spots.
Trail shoes with good lugs are recommended. There is a 150m section of pavement that would make metal traction devices un-fun.
**There is a Winter Storm Warning issued for tomorrow starting at 7:00 am.**
However, the heavier snowfall and wind aren't supposed to begin until the afternoon.
If you are driving from a good distance away, you will want to depart immediately after racing or consider spending the day at home.
If you have already registered and feel unsafe driving to/from the race please contact me and I will happily defer your entry to one of the other future events.
IF the forecast changes significantly I will update the race status as early as I can in the morning.
Saturday January 7th, 2017. 10:00 AM start.
Test your 2017 resolutions on this 5 kilometer race along the pristine sands of Scarborough State Beach. The course is fast and flat, but with a few tricky spots to keep your attention. Runners will follow sandy beach and single track trail while negotiating the 3.1 mile course that stretches from Scarborough Beach to Black Point Fishing Area. Beautiful ocean views. Race is at low tide so there will be plenty of packed sand to run on.
Open to all ages. No dogs. No strollers. Headphones strongly discouraged.
Race #1 of 5 in the SC 4th Season Race Series. Series championship points will be awarded to top 6 overall places for each gender, top 3 places for each age group, and top 4 teams.
