The BP Oil Spill

Chilean Miners
Welcome to our 2011 Breaking The Silence (BTS) Conference. We are truly honored to be presenting our 4th annual Kansas City, Kansas community based environmental gathering. Especially after this past year's news worthy environmental circumstances, like the Gulf of Mexico BP Oil spill, and the case of the 33 Chilean miners who were trapped underground for 69 days, and survived. Two incidents that by themselves make 2010 a memorable year for environmental concerns.

Which brings me to the theme of this year’s Breaking The Silence Conference. As long as those environmental incidents were headline news subjects, people all over the world couldn’t stop talking about them, but once the news media removed them from their front pages, the lessons learned were soon forgotten, and therefore did not transfer (as they should have) back to individual local issues and/or concerns.

So this year’s BTS conference themes will explore what we as the American public, should be environmentally educating both ourselves, as well as our youth, our future leaders &/or voters.
