  • Questions about Final
1.In question 2, part C, I am trying to figure out if it is a yes/no question and I was hoping you could direct me to a part in the book or something that could help me figure it out, as I'm not confident that I have the correct structure. Also in question 5 I was unsure if part c is a yes/no question.

Yes, (2C) is a yes-no question. The word order in the sentence + the lack of overt wh- word tells you it's a yes-no question.  The question mark at the end of the sentence is also a clue.

    2. In question 4, part A, I was slightly confused by what you're asking us to do, so I was wondering if you could perhaps provide more of an explanation.

In the tree for (4a) which picture of himself appears as a phonetically full version as the specifier of the complementizer and as a phonetically null version as the complement of the verb prefer.  Your job is to provide evidence that at some point in the derivation, which picture of himself actually serves as the complement of prefer.  You have at least two pieces of evidence that can be use to argue for this.  The fact that which picture of himself actually overtly appears in the correct linear order to be the specifier of the complementizer can play a role in your argument.
