What do good readers do when they see a word that they don't know?

Good Readers:

1. Look at the picture

2. Think about the meaning of the story.

3.Get their mouth ready to make the first sound.

4. Look for chunks in the word (find a smaller word inside a word).

5. Skip, then go back and REREAD!


Close Reading Strategies:

Good Readers mark their books while reading so they can discuss the book with their reading partners


A good reader puts a star to show the important parts

A good reader undelines key words

A good reader put a check mark to show they undertand the text

A good reader circles unfamilar words

A good reader puts a question mark when they do not understand

A good reader puts an exclamation mark when they are surprised by what they have read.
