This letter is re: an order I placed for a Socker Slam fan hat that I gave to JP as a gift. Here's a description of a Socker Slam game from a message board at the time Socker Slam was on the air - on Fox Sports World: Date: Wed, 27 Sep 2000 01:32:58 -0400 Sender: Discussion of Topics for Soccer Referees From: Gil Weber Subject: Long posting -- SockerSlam -- Have you seen this "novel" approach to the game? Dear Gang, This is a very long posting, and I don't know where to begin or quite how to put into words what I've just seen. So I'll just start at the beginning and try my best to describe the impossible to describe. I am NOT making up any of this. I actually experienced everything that follows. Tonight (and apparently for the next three Tuesday nights at 11 pm Eastern) Fox Sports World is broadcasting what I can only describe as World Wrestling Federation meets Roller Derby meets Indoor Soccer with a really bad dose of LSD thrown in to make it very surrealistic. The program is called "SockerSlam." There are four teams in the league: LA Surf, New York Bruisers, Miami Storm, and Toronto Loons. The "game" (if you can call it a game since it really is not an athletic contest but, rather, "sports entertainment" like wrestling and roller derby) is played on an indoor soccer field. In this case the match was between the Los Angeles Surf and the New York Bruisers (though the game was broadcast from an ice rink in Des Moines Iowa). Remember, I'm NOT making up any of this. The game combines elements of indoor soccer, ice hockey, aussie rules football, team handball, gaelic football, lacrosse, wrestling, rugby, rodeo, and the Keystone Kops. There are full sized goals (goal sits well inside the boards with plenty of room behind) and teams of six (I think -- it was hard to tell). Only the goalkeeper may catch and hold the ball. But all field players can knock the ball out of the air with their hands and control it, but hand passing can only be done with a closed fist. Goals can be scored by punching the ball into the goal. Full body checking is allowed and it's apparently perfectly OK to body slam an opponent into the boards and plexiglass. The players wear what appear to be cut off American football jerseys. I'm sure that shoulder pads would easily fit under these shirts. All of the players have nicknames (e.g., one is called "Full Monty.") The game begins with a throw-in by a "babe." (Ladies on the list, I'm sorry to use that word but if you saw this you'd agree it's the only way to describe her. She wears short-shorts, a cut off t-shirt exposing her middle, and she wiggles her hips repeatedly.) The babe stands off the field and between the benches. The ball is constantly in play, and if it goes off the field the babe restarts with another throw-in. As far as I could tell the only reason for the babe is to "titillate" (oops, sorry) the crowd since each throw-in is done in a way to maximize the forward thrust of her breasts and swivel of her pelvis. Once the ball enters the field (done sort of like a restart from the sideline in rugby) the players go into full scale battle. They'll kick the ball or their opponents (remember, there are no fouls in this game), knock it around with their hands, and try to shoot it into the opponent's goal. If the ball goes in that counts as one point. If the ball strikes a target hung from each upper corner of the goal that results in bonus points. When the ball goes into the goal it is still in play (remember, play is continuous). So there is an immediate battle between scorer and goalkeeper and their respective teammates. If the ball goes behind the goal it is still in play (e.g., as in ice hockey). There is plenty of body checking and boarding behind the goal, especially when the goalkeeper goes behind. The game is played in three periods plus a bonus period between the 1st and 2nd, and 2nd and 3rd periods (more on this in a moment). During the last two minutes of each period the babe throws a different color ball onto the field. Now there are two balls in play at the same time. The regular (white) ball scores as usual, but the colored ball scores bonus points. So, as you can imagine, with two balls in play there is even more chaos (if that's possible). There are cameramen with full rigs on the court at all times. They do their best to get out of the way when the play comes their way. There are two referees (s**t, I'm biting my tongue to call them that). Both wear striped (zebra) shirts. They stand at the side boards by the benches and do not move. At least one of them (possibly both?) wears headphones the entire time (as in the huge ear muff headphone you might use with your stereo system). I have no idea who might be talking to the referees, but that's what they're wearing. As I stated before, it does not appear that there are any fouls in this g

The idea around my quote, “I wanna rock and roll all night, and party every day” is pretty much fun and enjoyment. It portrays the essence of living life to its fullest, doing whatever makes you feel great. Living life with no regrets and feeling good about what you have accomplished. The two typefaces I used: “Hard Rock and Bleeding Cowboys”, really mix together great in the midst of the t-shirt. You need a little bit of class and enjoyment mixed in with a little bit of style and elegance in your life, to be “joyous” and to have “fun”. The modifications I made to the text, such as, different spacing between letters and words as well as different sizing of quotes, brings out the neatness but tattered bits involved inside each and every one of us. All in all, the idea behind this t-shirt is much more than just “cool” and “fun”, it’s about the different ways we as individuals live our lives, a way that we are all very different but also, very much the same.
