Welcome to the web pages of the Mid Essex Tuesday section of the 40+ Cycling Club.

Our rides on Tuesdays are usually around the lanes of Essex.

Rides start at Writtle duck pond or Sandon church and head into all corners of Essex – sometimes dipping into Hertfordshire and Suffolk. Free car parking is available at both start locations. We stop for approximately 45 minutes at 11 am at one of the many cyclist friendly cafes on our list.  The lunch stop is at 1 pm. An hour later will head towards our final stop of the day for afternoon tea. Current participants are mostly from the Chelmsford/Billericay areas but we also have riders from Harlow, Braintree and Dunmow who sometimes join us at elevenses and stay with us through lunch. Distances between stops are approximately 17 miles

Group riding numbers vary considerably depending on weather and our destination. However, we rarely have less than six riders at the start and have had as many as 12/13 riders at lunch. We have a nucleus of ten fairly regular riders, plus another six or so occasional supporters. We hope these numbers will increase as more people know about us.

We have been trialling a new system as per the A section, whereby we have a fast and slow group. It seems to be working well so far, and I do hope now that people will not be worried about the speed of the run or being left behind. We will try to find 2nd leaders where poss to look after the slower group. We would like to encourage riders of all ages and abilities to join us.

In 2019 when our winter is hopefully  behind us we will try a new start point for some of the runs so we can get a bit further afield and it will be Great Waltham at the same meeting time.
