Welcome to the Essex ‘A’ Section home page. We are fairly serious about our cycling, but we’re a friendly and supportive group and have plenty of fun together. Our Thursday rides are based in central Essex and cover the lanes of most of Essex and parts of Suffolk, Hertfordshire, Kent and even London. As well as the regular rides we have a summer fun ride and a Christmas lunch.

Thinking of joining us? Here’s some stuff you might like to know………We meet at a different café each week for 11’s and ride about 25 miles, sometimes more in summer, to a pub for lunch. In the afternoon we do around 15 miles to afternoon tea at a different café chosen by the leader on the day. Most members ride from home to the start and back again from tea. Each ride has a leader so you won’t have to worry about the route, and we typically average around 12,5 mph. You may be quite comfortable with this, but if you’re not really sure………..

Don’t worry about getting left behind, we will always wait and if you have a bike problem there’s always somebody to give you a hand.  There is usually an alternative group which goes to the same places but a bit more slowly and often by a more direct route, you might want to start with them first. You could make the day easier by going home directly from lunch or by driving to the start and riding back to your car later, there’s lots of options.

So if you’d like to try riding with us you’ll be welcome, just contact the secretary Chris Mills on 01245 442644 or at
