Tire Stores Mississauga. National Tyres Cardiff.
Photography homage, Louis Carlos Bernal, tire store, Coolidge, Arizona
This is one of the more unusual locations I have ever photographed. The unnamed Coolidge, Arizona tire store featured a religious grotto next to a pile of used tires and junked car, as well as the assorted artifacts and discards in this frame. All have been since replaced by a bland dirt lot. I imagine the city fathers found it an eyesore. If transported to a museum in New York, the "installation" would be considered a work of art, "skillfully capturing the multi stranded Hispanic roots in the Southwest." A former art teacher colleague of mine, once said that art is created by artists. So does that mean that this unheralded, unknown Latino assembler of "junk," would be thought of as an artist if this scene could be magically transported to that mythical museum? (Are creations art because they are housed in museums of art?) The late Louis Carlos Bernal would say yes, as revealed in his many barrio images. @2009 David Lee Guss Homage, Louis Carlos Bernal, tire store, Coolidge, Arizona, 2004At the Tire Store
