  • In photography and optics, a neutral density filter or ND filter can be a colorless (clear) or grey filter. An ideal neutral density filter reduces and/or modifies intensity of all wavelengths or colors of light equally, giving no changes in hue of color rendition.
  • (ND Filters) Neutral Density filters can be attached to the lens of a camera to assist in preventing overexposure of an image. Prosumer camcorders have ND filters built in.
  • A filter that attenuates light evenly over the visible light spectrum. It reduces the light entering a lens, thus forcing the iris to open to its maximum.

Essential for outdoor / movement photography Most popular Dolica 72mm Neutral Density filter 0.3, 0.6, 0.9 ND Kit The ND filter is commonly used for longer exposure to emphasize movement, such as photographing waterfalls to enhance the blurred effect of the moving water. Features: ND (Neutral Density) Filters - designed and used to reduce the amount of light passing through the lens so that a longer exposure is required to record an image. Another common use of ND filters to allow use of wider apertures to reduce depth of field.

My Current Gear
My Current Gear
Here's a picture of the Gear I'm using at the moment. This picture is also an update in terms of the quality of the picture (the other one was quite crappy, so I deleted it). It is missing here my lowepro Fastpack 100, that doesn't fit my lightbox ................................................................................................................................................................... This picure hobbie is very expensive... we're always looking forward to buy something that we need... I'm happy with the gear I'm using at the moment, but I'm missing a good tripod, some ND filters, and a wider angle lens (I heard some rumors about an EF-S 35mm 1.8 USM... this would be such a great lens for me!! the 35mm in the 500D, the 50mm in the 650 (in B&W). Don't you agree? ................................................................................................................................................................... To take this picture I had to borrow my father's 350D and his tiny tripod... this composition was quite difficult to archieve... Comments are always welcome in order to improve my capabilities!! Camera Equipment
Camera Equipment
I finally got around to documenting all the various camera crap that I've got, so have an insurance record of what I own. Everything here is insured, and my wife has been great about keeping track of receipts, but nothing beats a visual record. Anyone who has camera equipment really should insure it. Call your homeowners or renters insurance company and get an explicit policy - it's cheap, effortless, and lets you have peace of mind. Hoya 72mm HMC ND8 Multi-Coated Neutral Density Filter
This Hoya Multi-Coated Neutral Density (ND) Filter is an essential accessory for any photographer's camera bag. ND filters reduce the amount of visible light that enters the lens, allowing the user to utilize wider apertures or slower shutter speeds, particularly in bright conditions.
ND filters work especially well for portraits by allowing the photographer to reduce the depth of field, producing pleasant background blur while keeping the subject in sharp focus. These filters are also often used to emphasize movement by permitting slow shutter speeds in bright light, giving life to photos that would otherwise look frozen in time.
This particular filter (HMC) is multi-coated to minimize reflection on the filter surface, which reduces flare and ghosting, and produces sharp contrast and well-balanced color. An ND8 filter reduces the amount of light by 3 stops.
