The plumbers saga (a close up). Apparently the people in the apartment downstairs are complaining about water leaking into their bathroom, because we are directly above them it's obviously the first place to check. A plumber turned up one day and wanted to inspect our bathroom area - he did, and it all seemed fine. I gave him the phone number for the landlord. Two days later he (and the landlord) turned up again to do a 'closer' inspection. The closer inspection involved removing a tile on the side of the bathtub, chipping through about three inches of bricks and mortar and seeing if there was any sign of leakage. There wasn't. Not sure who is going to pay for the repairs (certainly not me) or when they are going to happen (didn't get an answer to that question) but in the meantime we have a rather large hole in the bathroom fixture.
