The 36th Infantry Division was organized at Camp Bowie (Fort Worth), Texas, 18 July 1917 initially for ww1. After WW1 on June 20 1919 the 36th infantry was released from active duty. However, between WW1 and WW2 the now all Texas infantry continued to train at camp Hulen at palacios, Texas. On November 25 of 1940 the division was mobilized for WW2 with active duty at camp Bowie in brownwood. It took part in the Louisiana maneuvers in 1941. It trained at camp blanking Florida and camp Edwards Massachusetts and began its movement overseas on April 1943. They landed in northern Africa.
