A new era has begun! Manitoba now has 3G!
A new era has begun! Manitoba now has 3G!
One thing I always hear from people outside of Manitoba when they come visit: "Where's the 3G? Why is everything so slow?" As you can see, people are too obsessed with technology now days. Myself included. Two days ago 3G finally was turned on permanently by Rogers after well over 2 years of announcements. They're working with the local carrier MTS to improve coverage and expand it as well. So far, it's been an alright experience. Today, data is much slower than it was on the 30th. On the 30th I was tethering my iPhone, getting speeds of 5mbps download, 3mbps upload. Now, with MTS on board now, it's generally 2mbps download and .3mbps upload. As soon as more and more people get 3G compatible phones, especially iPhones, it's just going to make the network horrible to use - which is a shame because we've been waiting forever for something like this! This was also important for rural areas as I know from personal experience there are lots of areas without any service - and without service, if you get into an accident, you're screwed! This is also the first time people get a choice for highspeed internet. Rather than just Inetlink and expensive xplorenet, you have Rogers and MTS as well now. Hooray for choice!
