  • Extra-Credit Quiz
    I have sent a copy of the extra-credit quiz to you all at the e-mail address the university has for you.  If you haven't received a copy by midafternoon on Tuesday, please e-mail me and I'll send you another.  The quiz will be due by 9 am on Sunday morning. Good luck!

  • Syntax Quiz Next Thursday (Halloween)
    The class will meet in a Google Hangout -- so make sure that you have access to a computer with internet access and the right software.  I will send out invitations to the hangout at 10am.  I will answer any questions about syntax you may have and give an on-line quiz.

  • Syntax Homework
    The new homework assignment is exercises 1-4 pp.  214-216 in the textbook.  This homework will also require the use of the materials from the A Linguistics Workbook which are found on the Course Materials page.  

    The homework is due before class on Tuesday, 29 October.

  • Reminder: Phonetics Quiz in Class Thursday, 3 October
    The phonetics quiz will require transcription, identifying symbols by giving a phonetic description and giving symbols for providing phonetic symbols.

  • Morphology Homework #1 and First Quiz
    (1) The answers to the first homework are linked to the Course Materials page.  The pdf answer sheet is password protected (with the Dropbox password).

    (2) The first quiz is scheduled for Thursday's class.  The quiz will ask you to do the same kind of things we've been doing in class and on the homework.  It will also include a couple of English words to draw trees for.

  • First Morphology Assignment
    Turn in your homework as an electronic copy in the Dropbox (linked above) by class time Tuesday, 3 September, and bring a copy to take notes on in class.

    Assignment: Language chapter 2 exercises 6-11 (pp. 60-62)

    Plus the following:

    IA. Identify all the morphemes in each set below.  
    B. Identify the morphological processes operating in each set to derive the more morphologically complex member of each pair. 
    C. Identify the general function of each process. 
    D. Discuss anything semantically unpredictable about any of the derived forms in each set.
