Currie Technologies eZip TriCruiser Electric Bicycle
Proving that trikes aren't just for kids anymore, the iZip Tricruiser electric tricycle offers an ideal way to get around town without tiring yourself out. The Tricruiser is equipped with a 450-watt DC Earth magnet motor an SLA-type 36-volt rechargeable battery, making it far cleaner than gas-powered scooters and hybrid cars. The high-capacity battery also offers a range of 30 to 35 miles per charge, so you can make it back and forth to the grocery store several times without running low on power. And once you're on the road, the Tricruiser boasts a top speed of 15 miles per hour (contingent on the rider weight)--plenty fast enough for most side streets. Is the market too far to walk but close enough that a car feels wasteful? Turn to the Tricruiser, which comes with a high-capacity rear basket that can hold everything from groceries to tools to children's toys. The Tricruiser is powered by both the electric motor and good old-fashioned foot power, with an easy-to-use "twist-and-go" throttle helping propel you forward. The trike is also extremely comfortable thanks to the extra-wide comfort saddle. Other features include a patented Currie Electro-Drive system with speed-specific gearing, heavy-duty alloy 24-inch rims with full fenders, and adjustable cruiser handlebars with dual-density grips.

Yamaha PAS-ER Hybrid Bicycle
Electric cars were all the rage at this years auto show but honestly until we completely run out of oil I don't expect electric cars to be anything more than a niche product. Electric bicycles on the other hand I think have huge potential in a country such as Japan. Bicycles are enormously popular in Japan and with an aging population I think these electric assisted bikes will be a huge hit if brought to market. This one has a small electric motor that powers both wheels. It has sensors that can detect when you are coasting downhill and will use that energy to charge the battery. It even has a sensor that will kick in an extra boost if it senses you are getting tired.

E-Zip Electric Hybrid Bicycle at Zclipse Bike Shop in Newport Beach
With a top speed of 18 mph with no pedal assist, this sharp looking I-Zip hybrid bicycle is a huge amount of fun to ride. Depending on how much the riders pedals, you can go 15 or more miles without recharging. The bikes are very popular and commonly out of stock at some retailers. Zclipse in Newport Beach, which is just a few miles from Irvine, Huntington Beach and Costa Mesa, is having a hard time keeping up with demand. The owners, Don and Marc, expect sales to continue strong regardless of gas prices. "These bikes are great fun to ride. Once you try it, your hooked."
