Tiger - or a Lynx?
Tiger - or a Lynx?
I have managed to find some old pictures of Liverpool's Skelhorn Street Coach Station. Liverpool hasn't done well on the coach station front. The current offering, somewhat inaccessibly located down some one-way streets, is not easy to find. One can be standing no more than 20 yards from it and been totally unaware that it is there. It seems to me to be an insubstantial construction of scaffolding poles with breeze-block in between to keep the wind out. However there is no doubt that it is an improvement on its predecessor, seen here. Skelhorn Street coach station had the air of a disused factory unit, pressed into service ubtil something better came along. Passengers were separated from vehicles by insubstantial crush barriers. The whole affair had a descidedly tired, down-at-heel atmosphere. Crosville CTL48 prepares to leave Skelhorn Street for Runcorn in 1987. This was at the start of the breakup of the National Bus Company: the coach still sports the NBC logo but its livery is a departure from the corporate dictat, and it has acquired the additional soubriquet 'Town Lynx'. Two potential passengers (or perhaps people who have just come in to shelter from the weather) try hard to ignore the diesel fumes. A Leyland Olympian of Ribble attempts to keep out of shot.
