Ganesh in Red
Ganesh in Red
Lord Ganesh at a Gujarati Hindu temple, newly adorned for Navratri celebrations. Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati look on. The temple is really quite beautiful and I try to visit it every week. Many non-Gujaratis, like myself, come to this temple, including communities that generally don't interact, such as Bengalis, Punjabis and Tamils (North and South Indians, in general). Its good to see Hindus from different regions getting together. As is common in other Gujarati temples, female devotees play the major role in devotional services, and there is a great reverence for Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati and their son, Ganesh. Ganesh is the God of Wisdom and He removes obstacles. Couples wanting children pray fervently to his beloved parents. Yoga and meditation classes are being planned, and hopefully, they will start shortly. Visitors to the temple on weekends can look forward to a special treat. The free vegetarian feast served here is prepared by superb chefs and is a hit with the non-Indian/non-Hindu visitors as well. The feast (Prasad/Prasadam) changes weekly and consists of two curries, dal, rice, puris, salad, and a sweet desert. Hope to include a photo of the feast soon.
