We Love GA CHIP

From the Worshipful Master - 12/10/2015
--------------------

Thank you brethren for supporting Nelms Lodge and the CHIP program in 2015!!  This year we were able to get out in the community in many ways, but this program is one that shows how charitable and caring our fraternity really is.  We created new partnerships with other businesses in the community, and strengthened already-existing partnerships.

We were able to complete 4 events this year, and thus identified approximately 130 kids in our community, which is outstanding!!  Our first event (partnering with the Smyrna Public Library for the Summer Reading Program kickoff) was very successful.  We identified approximately 42 kids.  Our 2nd event (Smyrna Public Library Summer Reading closing) identified approximately 23 kids.  Our 3rd event (Varner's Family Restaurant’s "Trunk or Treat" Halloween event) identified approximately 22 kids.  Our 4th event (1st United Methodist of Smyrna Christmas event) identified approximately 40 kids, bringing the estimated total to 127.  I am VERY proud of our lodge and our members who worked hard to make this happen.  Thank You to all who assisted in one way or another.  The CHIP program is my favorite community service project.

HELPING HANDS FROM NELMS #323

A big thank you to Bro. Greg Brennan and Bro. Jerry Henry for building a custom wheel chair ramp for Mrs. Evelyn Singleton (widow of late Worshipful Brother Hoyt Singleton (1988) of Mableton, GA).  Thanks also to the brethren that donated funds to help pay for the materials. Mrs. Singleton is currently bound to a wheel chair after falling and breaking her hip.  Brethren from Nelms #323 will also provide a hand rail to attach to the new wheelchair ramp in the coming weeks.  Great work brethren!  This is a perfect example of Masons making our community a better place, one act at a time!

Also, a BIG thank you to Brother Jim Cook for purchasing and installing a WATER HEATER for the widow Keen.  This was one heck of a water leak. We know that PM J.R. Keen (1999) would be proud!

2015 LODGE OF THE YEAR

DISTRICT 7-C 2015
LODGE OF THE YEAR

Worshipful Master Jason Weldon

Wrapping up 2015

From the Worshipful Master
12/10/2015

If you are traveling this holiday season, please be safe.  As a reminder, Nelms Lodge will only have 1 meeting in December, which will be on 12/14/2015.  That night is the 130th Annual Communication, when we will elect officers, install officers, present achievement-type awards, and read annual reports from the Audit Committee, Treasurer, and Secretary.  This year we will have an outstanding new award to be presented; the Sam R. Whitfield award! We created this award this year, so this year’s recipient will be the first.  RW Bro Sam will be in attendance.  We will also present RW Bro Sam with an award for his tireless dedication to our fraternity, lodge, and community over the past 60+ years.  I am happy to present a couple of brethren with special recognition for assisting me throughout the year with various events and tasks.  Our secretary has a special Past Masters apron presentation after the new WM is installed for 2016.

Our lodge will open at 7:30 pm, conduct business, and then elect officers.  We will then open the lodge to family and friends, and present awards.  I have a short “thank you” speech to present before I hand the gavel over to W. Bro. Dick Cunningham for the Installation of 2016 Officers.  W. Bro. David Kilgore will perform the Grand Chaplain duties, and W. Bro. Rusty Cordle will conduct the Grand Marshall duties.  After the ceremony, we will bid our family and friends a “good night” while the brethren close the lodge.

This is going to be one special night for our lodge and for our fraternity.  I hope your schedule will allow you to attend.  Again, if you travel, travel safe.  God Bless!

P.S.  Please take notice of the Nelms Lodge grounds!  Through an exceedingly gracious gift, Anita Gaines (daughter of the late W. Bro. George Gaines) has funded the 2015 landscaping of Nelms Lodge as a way to thank the lodge and fraternity that meant so much to her father for 60+ years of his life.  Ms. Gaines hired a landscaper to mow, trim, and blow once or twice per month.  In itself, this is a tremendous help to our lodge, but Ms. Gaines did not stop there.  She also had a retaining wall built between our parking lot and CVS, and new flower beds installed in several areas.  We were able to install a gate to help protect our property, and jonquil flower beds on either side of the front door (along the front side of the building).  Thanks to her generosity, our lodge now looks better than ever.  When the work is completed for 2015, we are planning to install a plaque outside (possibly on the new retaining wall) in dedication to W. Bro. Gaines via his daughter, Ms. Anita Gaines.  Thank you Ms. Gaines!

I will be having a nuclear stress test in the morning at 7:30 AM and then an echo of my heart. My blood work from last week shows that my synthroid is not right. So I am messed up physically and not able to do much now. Keep me in your prayers please.

DUES & DONATIONS

   You
can now Pay your dues or make a donation to the Lodge right here on our website. There is only a small processing fee for the convenience of dues-payment; and no fee at all for any donations. Thanks!!
https://sites.google.com/site/nelmslodge323/payments

A note about the donation selection for the Grand Lodge Per Capita tax - this amount is included in your annual dues. However, if you are an Emeritus or Life member, you deservedly do not pay dues any more. This is just a way that you can help the lodge by volunteering to cover the Grand Lodge fixed costs.
