Language Understanding and Knowledge Discovery
Focused Faculty Workshop
Nov. 14-15, 2013
Dear Friends and Colleagues:
Warmly welcome to Google Language Understanding and Knowledge Discovery Focused Faculty Workshop, which will be held at Nanjing, China, Nov. 14-15, 2013. The goal of the workshop is to deepen the interactions between academics and Google, sharing and brainstorming important areas that are of mutual interest. Eventually, with the connections built, we aim to build potential research collaborations when appropriate.
We believe research plays an important role to support engineering during the process of developing the leading edge technologies and products. While at Google, we take the hybrid approach to research - to integrate research and development (R&D). Through the brainstorms between research and engineering, we identified the following topics for this workshop which will focus on "Knowledge for/from Text Understanding":
Linking text and represented knowledge
Open text understanding: discovering new entities and relations from text
Cross-lingual methods for better language understanding and knowledge discovery
Based on these topics, we will have 1.5 day workshop to go through the important areas and prioritize those most important ones. These most important areas will be the touch base for the next-step to pursue potential joint research collaboration.
We sincerely hope you will enjoy your stay and be able to build new relationships with your colleagues and fellow computer scientists at Google. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanks.
