There have been several important research studies in which G2a1 figured prominently. As you may be aware, G2a1 is found in a very concentrated form in North Ossetia-Alania in the central part of the Russian Caucausus Mountains.

The new studies incorporated into this page confirmed what we already knew about North Ossetia -- namely that the majority of the population was G2a1. But in other Caucasus places where G2a1 was sampled, Abkhazians who live in the s.w. Caucasus were 12% G2a1. In addition 9% of Circassians in the n.w. Caucasus were, as were also a small percentage of the Chechians in the n.e Caucasus. Unfortunately no specific testing was done among the G2a men of South Ossetia (just south of North Ossetia) or in Georgia in the s.e. Caucasus. Georgia is a complicated situation because most countries consider Abhazkia and S. Ossetia part of Georgia though they are functionally independent of Georgia. And some of the early Georgia samples may have been taken in those two entities. We can recognize G2a1a marker value combinations as well represented among those taken about a decade ago in undefined "Georgia" before boundaries were so much of an issue.
These studies also provided some abbreviated marker samples, but I could not find among them any that could be basis of a new subgroup. The same groups found among our own participants from the Caucasus were found in these studies.
If you are not aware of it, your subgroup contains the sample from the direct descendant of Russian leader, Joseph Stalin, labeled the Dzhugashvili sample.
You are within one of the luckiest subgroups in the project. We can fairly reliably reliably assign you to this subgroup because you all share an uncommon marker value in the first 12 markers, and all of the men in the project have tested at least 12 markers. So there is no additional testing for subgroups now available to you. We will be regularly checking to see if there is some way to create a subgroup within G2a1a1a men.
