65/365 Spark
65/365 Spark
Ayn Rand once wrote, “Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark in the hopeless swaps of the not quite, the not yet, and the not at all. Do not let the hero in your soul perish in lonely frustration for the life you deserved and have never been able to reach. The world you desire can be won. It exists. It is real. It is possible. It is yours.” (Atlas Shrugged) Ahh, I forgot about my 365 today until around dinner time then I started to remember. Drove from Palm Springs and arrived at Huntington Beach today. It is beautiful out here. Once we arrived, checked in, had lunch, I jumped right into the ocean and started surfing. Surfed for 3 hours straight non-stop, my body is wiped out now... Need. Bed. Sleep. And, I got hit right in the face/head by my surfboard very hard, oh jeez, it really hurted. Must pay attention next time. But other than that, loved the surfing. But me and my little fear of sharks is still, ehh. Another highlight here is the hotel. The hotel we're staying is amazing. I love it. I think I can officially call it my favorite hotel? Shorebreak Hotel. The vibe here is great, that vacation feeling, they have surfing artwork everywhere, it has this really surfing, beach yet trendy vibe to it and spacious. Everyone here is so friendly and happy and it is pet friendly! Saw some little doggie friends just now. I don't know, I just looooove this hotel a lot. After dinner, on our way to the room, there was a deck at the hotel with several cozy fire pits you can sit and chill at. I sat there for a while and took a couple quick shots for today. Huntington Beach does get pretty chili at night, so the fire pit feels so warm and comfortable and cozy. Oh wow, I really can go on and on and on. Sorry, I tend to do that, the ranting thing.
Grovenor Hotel Port Erin
Grovenor Hotel Port Erin
The Grosvenor Hotel looks the best on Port Erin Promenade. The hotel we always stayed in - The Port Erin Royal - is now derelict as others have become or been replaced by luxury flats. Susan and Alan make their guests feel at home and it is a very comfortable place to stay with high standards of cleanliness and excellent food. At the Grosvenor one gets the luxury of a top hotel with the warmth and friendliness of the old fashioned boarding house welcome. And it is Pet Friendly! Looking out from where I am standing the scenery is as I always remember it - grassy banked cliff top to walk on with seats every few yards, the grass trim and neat and not one miniscule piece of litter. Taking the steps down to the clean sweeping sandy beach which curves to the harbour on the left and to Bradda Glen on the right - again spotlessly clean and child friendly. The only sadness is the decline of the hotels in this idyll and the deterioration of the cliff path walks leading up and down from the beach. The last time I was here was with my mother and brother - we walked down the little path from the Port Erin Royal Hotel to sit on a seat and enjoy the view - mM mother remarked as we sat on a seat in a cold wet wind - "It'll be lovely here in summer" - it was July!
