The bustling South Indian metropolis of Chennai, the capital of the state of Tamil Nadu is well known as a cultural and religious hot-spot. Chennai boasts several temples, a few beaches and is the hub for South Indian classical music and dance. Chennai also offers fine multi-cultural cuisine, plenty of inexpensive (and expensive, if you're in the mood for it) shopping and tonnes of entertainment and night-life.

The one thing that Chennai guarantees at this time of year is heat! It's going to be extremely hot (35 - 40 degrees Celsius) when you're here, so bring light clothing and sunblock if you're not used to this type of weather.

The coastal town of Pondicherry (about 2.5 hours by car from Chennai) offers several tourist spots, including the universal city Auroville, the ashram of Sri Aurobindo, gorgeous beaches and lots of recreational activities.
