Creation Station: a live demonstration of a hilarious, interactive assembly program that encourages reading and takes a look at the process for creative writing. Laugh out loud while experiencing how audience participation, music, puppets, magic tricks and more are used to circulate books that students might otherwise never check out!

Getting Boys to Read: Seeing Your Library Through a Guy's Eyes.............................. Room 6

Why is the gap between boys' and girls' reading levels a major concern among health experts and educators? Why are the vast majority of reluctant readers boys? In this informative seminar, getting boys to read is the focus. Learn ways to see your library through a "guy's eyes," tips to promote genres that boys like, and advice for creating reading role models for boys grades K-12. If you want ways to get books in the hands of "little guys," this fun session will inspire you.

How can we enhance and improve the reading and enjoyment of poetry? The South Carolina ELA standards specifically address poetry, but sharing poetry with your students should not be a hardship for you OR your students.  The presenters will share successful strategies from the perspective of teachers, a curriculum facilitator and a media specialist.

Standards and Guidelines – An Open Forum.......................................................................... Room 8

This session is hosted by the SCASL Committee on Standards and Guidelines. We will explore the standards that relate to the school library professional (ADEPT Performance Standards), the school library program (including collaboration and instruction) (Achieving Exemplary School Libraries), and the school library resource collection (Core Collection Standards). Everyone is invited to hear about revisions to these three standards documents and to take advantage of offering feedback as we progress with the revision process. This session will be Vodcast on the SCASL Teacher Tube Channel.

OnePlaceSC:  One User Name, One Password and One Integrated Search............... Room 10

ETV’s OnePlaceSC allows educators to search quality educational content to assist in focusing on instruction, not managing classroom resources.  It contains a TV guide feature displaying all of ETV's satellite and broadcast live programming, (which can be streamed on-demand) including current Staff Development programs. Using their existing StreamlineSC username and password, educators are able to explore all of the wonderful educational tools in ETV’s OnePlaceSC.
