The Northern e-Learning Consortium

The Northern e-Learning Consortium is a group of Public and Catholic School boards from the Thunder Bay and Sudbury-North Bay Regions of Ontario.

NeLC was formed out of a collective need in Northern Ontario to offer a wide variety of courses for all students, while eliminating duplications of course offerings throughout the regions. A grassroots-type of organization, NeLC shares e-Learning students across boards without cost, recognizing that balance in exchanges would be achieved over a period of time.

NeLC uses the tools and supports provided by e-Learning Ontario, specifically the Learning Management System "Desire 2 Learn" (D2L) and the Seat Reservation System (SRS).

The group meets 4 - 6 times a year to develop sharing practices, student support strategies and plan for each year's online course offerings.

For the 2012-2013 school year, the NeLC boards are sharing over 100 course offerings with each other.
