Glass Walls
Glass Walls
"If slaughterhouses had glass walls, the whole world would be vegetarian" -PETA Today I visited Slate Metro Park with a friend of mine to shoot. This place was filled with such a beauty that somebody from my generation, Generation Y if you will, has never had the oportunity to experience. Not the beauty of the bright colors on a flower. Not the beauty of a child's laughter. Not even the beauty of love. But a beauty so serene. So simple, it seems so outageous that we willingly hand over the opportunity to witness it. While at this park, we were able to place ourselves at the scene of a small, quite family farm. We watched as the sheep were hand-sheared one by one. We listened as the man explained to us that they "face" the sheep(remove the wool from around it's eyes)because, even though they could sell it and make a quick buck, they dont let it grow long enough because this wool causes disabilities and "hardsheeps"(a little humor :D) for the animal, so they dont allow the wool to get long enough. We listened as the geese called to eachother. We looked into the eyes of horses. We watched as turkeys made themselves as big as they could to show the females that they were better than the "ugly humans" staring at them. This is beauty. Life, living the way it was meant to, is the most serene, fascinating, and rare beauty that this world has to offer. The reason that this beauty is such a rare phenomenon is because we as people are demanding so much from the lives of the creatures around us, forcing them to be slaughered by the thousands, even millions, to keep a supply large enough for our demands. On the way home, my friend and I got into a great discussion about our believes towards said subject; not as a argument, or even a disagreement, but more of a learning experience for both of us. I am a vegetarian, and he is not. This was the base of our discussion. He asked me why I was, and I explained that, it isnt because eating meat is wrong, and it isnt because killing animals is wrong. That is nature, animals kill other animals, and we just happen to be lucky enough to be at the top of the food chain. No, I explained that my reasoning behind my choice to become a vegetarian is because I refuse to support any act, company, organization, ect. that tries to manipulate the circle of life, and even life itself. Every year, billions of animals are killed. Hundreds, even thousands at a time. And do you know why? The finger is pointed at nobody other than those who support the huge companies that do so. And this was the begining of the next topic of discussion. Where have the values of us humans gone? They had to have gone somewhere, because we dont have them. We want something, somebody makes money off of our wants. THAT is the one and only basis of life now. Human currency, and our unnattainable wants and desires. Take a trip back 50 years ago. When a farmer wanted to make money, he would have one man come over, and that one man would ask for a cow. The farmer would sell the cow. Or, the man would come over and ask for so many pounds of beef. And the farmer would kill the cow, and use the meat to feed this mans family. Now, go back 100 years ago. When your family needed to eat, you would go out into the wilderness, for hours at a time, and you wouldnt come home until you had hunted your prey. You brought the animal home, skinned it, and cooked it. Your family now was full until the next day. Fast forward to 2011. You walk into Mcdonalds(or any fast food company) and its packed. There are 20 people, maybe more. This is just this one mcdonalds, in this one city, in this one state, in this one country. Think of the millions of other mcdonalds' around the world? How do they all still serve meat and food? Ill tell you why. Because there are huuge factories all over the world that, every year, kill billions of chickens and millions of cows to fill your stomache. They will sell any part of the animal they can pass off as meat. And you know the sickest part? Not a single human drops the blade, or even pulls the trigger, that kills these animals. The animals are hooked up to assembly lines, like car parts, and cannot move. They are then mechanically killed by a constantly swinging blade, or a blade on a timer. And after an animal is killed, there is literally not a single part of it that they dont use, or fuse together with other parts, to pass off as their "meat". This may all suprise you, but it is all true. And it may even shock you, but we as humans are to blame, because its us that demands more and more and more. No matter what or how much we have, we want more and more and more. I dont blame Mcdonalds for the genocide of the animals, i blame humans. It is instinct, life, to, as animals, hunt our prey and run from our predators. But a chicken cant run when its legs are in clamps on an assemply line. This is wh
